Some neighbors are supportive, while others are not, of a proposal to build a private airstrip west of Redmond Airport and near the Maston Recreation Area.
Alex Polvi, a Deschutes County resident, wants to build a dirt airstrip on his 123-acre property off Harper Road west of U.S. Highway 97 between Tumalo and Redmond. The airstrip would be about 200 feet long, according to county planning documents, and would sit roughly 6 miles away from Redmond Airport.
Polvi said his intention is to use the strip only to fly a small bush plane once to twice a week, and that there would be no commercial air traffic coming in or out of his property. The Federal Aviation Administration sent a âno objectionâ letter about the proposal this summer as long as Polvi followed certain conditions, Allen Kenitzer, a regional public affairs officer for the FAA, said in an email.
A woman who reported Tuesday that her ex-boyfriend threatened to release intimate photos of her later told police he sent those photos to her mother, according to a police report.
Officers with the Denton Police Department spoke with a man and woman over the phone around 1:57 p.m. Tuesday who wanted to file reports against the same man. The report says police spoke with the woman first, who said her ex texted her around 5:13 a.m. Tuesday threatening to release intimate images of her.
According to the report, the former couple had been in contact since they broke up last month, but this is the first message the caller felt was more pointed, and she believed he would release the images.

Amalgamated Sugar in December donated nearly 7 tons of sugar to food banks and other charitable organizations.
âThis year has been difficult for many people, and the holidays can increase that difficulty,â President and CEO John McCreedy said in a release. âWe are a grower-owned cooperative, and we want to be sure that families in need can still carry on their family baking traditions.â
Amalgamated for the fifth consecutive year sent about 10,000 pounds to The Idaho Foodbank.
âFood has the power to bring people together,â said Karen Vauk, the food bankâs president and CEO. âHowever, gathering around the table for a special meal or simply cooking a treasured family recipe may be out of reach for many struggling this year. Therefore, we are grateful to the farmers of Amalgamated Sugar for thinking of their fellow Idahoans and providing some sweet relief to get them through the holidays.â
